I remember it well from 1958. There was a lady that sold papers from a little hut to the right of this photo. Cannot remember her name at the moment.
Yes, living in the States now, but grew up in Stanhope Gardens. My cousin and his wife were Publicans of this pub for short time. Not sure if in the 60s or 70s. There was a seafood stall there on the weekends and my cousin always got his crab there! Had a friend who lived over the Fish & Chip shop.
Yes, remember the fish bar in St Anne's and the milk machine. That brings back so many memories. My Aunt lived in one of the roads off Stanhope Gardens, we lived in Green Lanes.
In 1958, we lived on Warwick Gardens. The 171 bus from Bruce Grove stopped right outside the Men's W.C. on the St Ann's side of the Salisbury. The one-way system there was introduced with the controlled pedestrian area scheme.
I lived in Seymour Road, opposite the Salisbury, from 1944-1964. Remember the crab stall well - that smell of combined fish and beer!
Bizarre this - the car on the left is a 1952-ish Vauxhall Velox and it looks two-tone - if it was dark blue and light blue it could well be my father's - UML 294.
