Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

For seven years, between 1951 and 1958, Harringay Green Lanes Station was called Harringay Park Station. This photo would hav ebeen taken during that period.

I tracked down the whole history of the sttaion's naes for Wikipedia. Here's what I found:

It was opened on 1 June 1880 with the name Green Lanes, but has since been renamed a number of times:

  • Harringay Park, Green Lanes (1883)
  • Harringay Park (18 June 1951)
  • Harringay Stadium (27 October 1958)
  • Harringay East (12 May 1990)
  • Harringay Green Lanes (8 July 1991)

That's me on the platform !  I remember these 'wow' very modern station buildings. Compared to South Tottenham with it's wooden platforms and wooden platform buildings.. these were luxury.

Ha ha.. what is it with these snipes all the time?

BTW, I suppose the station was damaged/destroyed in the war, when the V1 Flying bomb landed right next door on the Stadium forecourt and that's how it came to get modern buildings.

I only remember it as Harringay Stadium. We used to get the train from there to Southend via changing at Barking. Happy days.
