A photographic postcard of 2820 Pte Arthur Edward Money serving with the 2/5th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment
The card was sent from Arthur to Becky. A later annotation states " Arthur Money (Auntie Louisa's husband)".
Money enlisted on 21.9.1916. He lived at 95 Roseberry Gardens, Harringay N4. He was employed by Kings of Shepperton Road, Islington as a Carman.
Money served in France from 25.2.1917 with the 2/5th Battalion South Staffs. He forfeited 7 days pay on 25.3.1917 for refusing to comply with an order. Evacuated to the UK on 23.10.1917. Regraded B2 and transferred to the 14th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment on 21.6.1918 and later posted to No 3 Company, RASC on 3.1.1919. He was eventually posted to 311 Coy RASC on 25.1.1919.
In 1945, he is listed as residing at 231 New North Road, Islington with his wife Lousia.

Either he married twice or Louisa was also known as Emily. He's on the Army Pension records as being married to an Emily at the correct address as above. Also not finding the address in 1911, wondering if it was destroyed.

I guess if he was 'evacuated' in Oct 1917 I imagine he was badly wounded at Passchendaele. I read about the battle at Passchendaele some time back, and not a more miserable hell on earth could I imagine. God only knows what men like him (on both sides) saw and suffered.
I had a look to see what B2 meant, according to a recent Army classification it means fit for sedentary duties only...

According to Army Pension records he was in hospital with colitis from 24-31 Oct, presumably in this country.

A quick whizz round the military history sites reveals that 2/5th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment was renamed 176th Brigade, 59th (2nd North Midland) Division in Aug 1915, and were moved in January 1917 to Fovant and landed at Le Havre 25 February 1917 (which matches the dates above for serving in France).
So a likely scenario for Pte Money's war record could have been that he took part in the pursuit of the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line (April) before a period of rest being "fattened up" for Flanders. His Division then took part in some of the Third Battles of Ypres:Battle of the Menin Road Ridge and Polygon Wood in September. He would have returned to France in July 1918 with the Leicestershire regiment before finally going home to serve with the unsung heroes of the war the Army Service Corps in a horse transport unit doing admin and back up roles based initially in Bradford with 3 company, then 311 company serving as 36 Reserve Park aka Army Auxiliary Units.
