How clean and quiet it looks there.

I think this picture was taken in Green Lanes looking south towards Manor House, and at the southern end of the 'ladder'. The bridge carries the railway line which, in the 1950s, went from St Pancras to Southend. The stadium advertised on the bridge was just beyond the bridge, on the left in the picture, and I think a small part of the roof of the arena, where I recall attending Christmas circuses, can be seen under the bridge. Is this right?

Yes, that seems right. It’s the bridge by the Overground station, looking down towards Manor House; McDonalds now where the roofs are visible beyond the bridge on the left. The bus stop on the right has been moved north of the bridge since this photo was taken. I think there must have been direct access to the stadium from the westbound platform, meaning passengers didn’t have to exit into Green Lanes and go round.

Yes, Don, I remember the staircase and I think it was barred out of use when the stadium closed.
