This postcard is postmarked April 1914, which in this case is probably good dating evidence since the image was in all likelihood commissioned by the residents. It is signed "BB". Records tell us that a Bertha Burgess lived at the address at this time. It is reasonable to assume that it was Bertha who sent the card. Also at the address was Charles Claud Burgess, a professional musician. I do not know if they were a married couple or related by blood.
The Victorian development of which this was a part, consisted of seven pairs of semi-detached houses which stretched from the Wellington almost up to Coleraine Road. They were originally called Stanley Villas. The houses were demolished in the mid/late 1920s and replaced with the buildings standing there today.
Stanley Villas can also be seen in the centre of this photo.
