Wow! Love that Hugh!!
Any one have any idea how long this remained in the park? I have vague memories of going there in the 1950s...
I remember the cafeteria looking like this in the 1950's and 60's. Nice park during those early years with Park Keepers wearing a brown uniform with brown matching hats.
Thank you Victor. That has helped cement my memory of being taken there by my Mum and Grandma in the late 50s and 1960s. Happy memories.
Lydia, the map added in a comment under this photo, confirms that it was still there in 1968, without any doubt.
I'm pretty sure that it was demolished and the new one built in 1972.
Thanks Hugh, also another fabulous photo and information in that link.
It was a beautiful building. So many happy memories - a glass of Tizer and maybe an ice-cream between two wafers and then take a boat out on the lake!
Yes, remember this landmark from the late 1950s. I lived in Hermitage Road and Finsbury Park was my playground. The lake was always fascinating - the water, the wildlife, the fishermen and the boats. A trip on the water was an adventure and an icecream in the teahouse a real indulgence.
Looking back, I realise how fortunate us local children were to have such an extensive parkland close by as an area to explore, enjoy and appreciate. Our school also took classes to the park for nature study to encourage us to understand the seasons and help us to identify plants.
It's Gorgeous!
