Not a great shot, but the only one I can find of the Ever Ready building on the corner of St Ann's Rd and Warwick Gardens. Dated 1971.

This was the centre of the company's research. Originally know Central Laboratories, it was later referred to as Group Technical Centre.

The company spent heavily on research and development: 250 people worked in the Harringay laboratory.

It was closed in 1984, as part of the far-reaching cuts after the takeover by Hanson plc.

The maps definitely weren't drawn incorrectly. Cartographic errors on OS maps are not unheard of, but are rare.

I should have taken a bigger extract of the 1955 map, the only one that showed house numbers. As you can see from the enlarged extract below, No 13 is marked on that. The prefabs have taken the numbers of the houses that were destroyed, with the exception, it seems, of number 1.

Six houses were destoyed on the east (odds) side. To confirm how far six houses would have reached, compare with the houses on the west side.

Thank you, that makes perfect sense now. That mine did an awful lot of damage and it’s amazing that the fronts on number 20-28 received no damage. It took a year to repair numbers 2-18, my relatives were evacuated to family in Leicestershire. The Edwardian fronts with sash windows were replaced with Crittal metal frame bay windows - Mum hated them as they dripped with condensation.

George and I used to talk a lot and he gave me three large tubes of acrylic paint which I used in my artwork and still have them in a box somewhere after 49 years. George looked very much like your Mum. I had very long dark hair in those days, and I do remember George trying to convince me to go to a concert at The Rainbow with him - I can’t remember who was playing, only that I didn’t think much of them.

I wonder if he would remember me x
