I love this! Flooding clearly a bit of a regular occurence in Harringay.

A great find, Geoff - that is no ordinary postcard!
The central 'lifeboat' picture looks to be the bottom of Allison 'Cove' which seems to have been a classic spot for flooding and just opposite Colina 'Bay'.

I've added some tags - check the flood tag. There seem to have been two particularly big floods - in 1907 and 1937.

I would say flooding occurred virtually annually until the late 1960s.. Both Harringay until Tottenham often suffered severely from flooding.
Generally it was 'flash flooding' after heavy summer thunder storms - Some summers were hotter and therefore there was a greater chance of thunder storms. At 'Allison Cove' flooding was caused by the Stonebridge Brook and in Tottenham by the Moselle, both of which had been insufficiently culverted in the late nineteenth century as the areas were developed. Both these streams/rivers carried/still carry 'rain' water down from the Northern heights down into the Lea Valley and on into the Lea.
The last serious flood that I recall was in 1964 - again due to flash flooding..
I also remember work being done on the Moselle around 1968/69 - but can't seem to recall any work on the Stonebridge Brook - which must have happened at some time. ( Edit: I do recall work on the Newsam Avenue section, but not in Harringay itself).

Oh Wow........just seen this post.  I was born and lived in Harringay Road '49 - '70 and I remember at least 3 floods during that time causing our poor old Mum much extra hardship and work.  Also remember big construction works along Harringay Road, apparently culverting works as discovered on HoL.  But a real interesting postcard :  "A Morning Dip" is on Colina Road at junction with Harringay Road looking up to Green Lanes. (Colina Mews is just beyond and to right of that sad looking gentleman).  "The Whirlpool" I would guess is from Colina Road looking up Harringay Road toward The Salisbury.  Other shots I can't actually position.  But thanks for this, very pertinent to me.
