Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Green Lanes, Manor House 1952
An H1 Trolleybus working north to WInchmore Hill on the 641, today's 141, a RTL in the background, working on route 29 to Victoria and a 1931 built E/3 tram working the 33 to West Norwood via Kingsway Subway, covered by today's 341. The tram withdrawal notices are pasted on the windows of 2003, dating this photo to the end of March, beginning of April 1952.

Great photo! I remember being taken on the bus (or trolleybus) from where we lived near Turnpike Lane to Manor House and then crossing the junction to the waiting tram. There were several trips to the South Bank during the last years of the trams. I can still remember the excitement of going through the Kingsway tunnel. The most memorable trip was to the Festival of Britain in 1951.

Festival of Britain - did we all go? My mother loathed the trams so we clubbed together with our neighbours and went in Monty Banks Humber Pullman - soft as silk. The 641 was our regular bus to the parks in Palmers Green and Southgate. The 29 took us to Victoria and the green electric trains to Lewes and Eaestbourne.

The tram ride down to Clissold Park was always enjoyable - much more fun that the bus. The seats upstairs (we always rode upstairs) were reversable and worth playing with.
The tram conductors often let us travel for free.
My longest tram trip was through the Kingsway tunnel and to this day I can remember how close the walls seemed.

I always had a hazy memory of beiong on a tram probably when i visited grandparents in Turnpike lane

I think the last tram ran in about 1952; I was only 9 but have a very vague memory of them. I do recall my older brothers complaining about getting their bike wheels stuck in the lines and mum problems with the prams.

There's the old joke about the apprentice being late for work.
His excuse was the his bike wheels became stuck in the tram lines and he had to go all the way to the terminus to turn around.
