Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I think early 20th century. It would have been taken from the high ground where Chettle Court now is, looking north, with the northern part of Wightman, and the Ladder beyond, stretching behind the tracks, across the right half of the picture. The tall chimney to the extreme left was at Barratts sweet factory. Most of the factory still survives in Mayes Road, but not the chimney.

Where you see the track forking in the extreme right of the picture is about level with Seymour Road.

The part of the goods yard to the left is now the Cranford Way light industrial estate, off Tottenham Lane.

This was some busy yard. Imagine the noise.

I've mentioned this before.. even in the 1970s you could hear the Deltics passing through Harringay on Hermitage Road, if the wind was in the right direction. The sound of 'goods wagons' being shunted could also be heard  quite a distance away..

This is Ferme Park Down Sidings the flyover is visible to the right of the picture. Hornsey locoshed in the distance to the right. I have one of the stop lamps off a buffer beam from here. Before it was closed it had very little traffic.
