Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This picture shows the Express Dairy and part of the Ritz cinema at the top of Muswell Hill. Apparently, the milkman was William Boon and his horse was called Nobby.

The Ritz Cinema was opened in 1936 and rebranded the ABC in 1962, It closed in 1978. A block of flats now stands on the site of the cinema. A photo of the cinema is shown below.

The Express Dairy building is now part of the Wetherspoon pub, The Mossy Well

Oh boy what memories. In the late 40s and early 50s we had Express Dairies deliveries by a horse called Nobby and a milkman known to all as Bill - so could it have been...?

And then an early date with my now wife saw us in the 1s 9ds at the Ritz. A year or two later my AJS 500 was stolen from the car park. We found it later a few streets away with a note saying "Sorry - just had to get home. Put few bob's worth in the tank". And he had!

And across the road in the Woodman we held the annual NUJ Christmas party from at least 1959 to 1964. The landlord was a Mr Sherman I seem to recall. Memory fails on his first name.

PS - Not keen on Wetherspoons but the name Mossy Well is genius.

Can't see the same happening to a "short term loaned" car happening these days !
