Eustances seems to have started off further east, off Hornsey Road. In 1910 there were two branches: one at 77 Andover Road and one at 157 Thorpedale Road.
By 1922, a branch was open at 176A Tollington Park (link to Google Maps). That's the half-shop shown on the right of the picture. A few years later, they also occupied 176.
Beavis, next door (as seen above) was an Oilman
Below is a rather damaged picture of the shop's horse and cart.

An unusual name, so I wonder if that is the same Eustance family who had a greengrocer's shop in London Road, Enfield. I would walk past it four times a day during the fifties and sixties, but it is long gone now.
What a wonderful atmospheric photo of the shop frontage that is !
Hats!
Marvellous image - spot the bare head eh?
Added the second picture, showing a straight-on view of the shop.
Wonderful selection of fruit and veg!
It beats me on the time and patience needed twice daily to set up and clear those displays. Real works of art and pride. But of course that was all display stuff. The goods bagged up for customers was generally from within shop and maybe not as prime looking as that on display. But having said that they all had reputations to withhold and word soon got around about standards. AND......oil shops ! What memories.
I can still smell the local oil shop where I took an empty can to be filled with paraffin for our stove. They had free samples of roof felt. I collected them (for some unknown reason - probably because they were free).
