Oh my, Egerton! You've no idea how interested I am to see these two photos! Thank you so much for taking the time to post them. We started do a family tree of the Grey family. I imagine you've got a lot further. Are there any pictures of Harringay House in the family?

.....in fact is that Harringay House above the chair, just behind his right shoulder?

No I do not have any pictures of Harringay House. What you thought might be the house is actually the fold of a curtain.

Hello Egerton and Hugh! Well this is all very interesting to me from a completely different angle. I am also very pleased to see some pictorial images. I recently moved to Haringey from South London and was interested in Haringey House as my maternal grandmother and great grandfather were also Gray. They were born and brought up in Portland Jamaica. My mother, whose mother was Adelaide Gray, came to England in the 1950's. I understand from the University College London database that Edward Gray had almost 250 slaves in Portland Jamaica in the late 1830s and was compensated over 4500 pounds at the end of slavery by the British Slave compensation scheme which paid former slave owners, I assume my maternal ancestors were within that group. In addition, my paternal grandfather who was also from the same area. His name was Egerton Field! I am not sure what our name was before slavery but I am pretty sure it would not have been Field. I wrote a blog piece that included a reference to Edward Gray recently which was picked up by the Haringey Local History group. See link below. They have a lot of information about him which I will take a look at. I am keen to find out about the slaves he had. So we just might be connected through slavery which as you probably know is extremely topical at the moment through the oscar winning film and through Caribbean governments actions including claims for reparations against a number of European governments. Most of the newspapers including the London Metro, Guardian etc are reporting on it.

Through the blog piece I wrote at the end of Feb about my trip to New Zealand. I referred to UCl and Seamans Valley. Read the Ubele blog link above, if you havent already. I also have a friend whose name is Barbara Gray. Her family come from the Maroons (in Portland Jamaica) and I kept saying we are related. If you look up Seamans Valley in Portland Jamaica (I just did a googlemap search), my immediate family come from 3 miles from Manchioneal which is listed (it is on the coast) whereas Seamans Valley is in the Blue Mountains nearby. How are you related to Edward Gray?
