This took my breath away - almost literally! I take it the Health Centre is a the successor to Hornsey Cottage Hospitals of my youth (where they tried to sort my asthma hence the comment!).  Beyond that land is/was Calthorpe Cricket Club where I played after leaving North Middlesex Club. I recall it as a wilderness area even then (50s). Wonderful use of the site and a great project - well done everyone.

I also am delighted to see from the map that Hornsey Lido still has a pool!

hi richard - so nice to read your comment!  yes, we're behind the old cottage hospital, which i also remember from my childhood when they still had a casualty dept and where my brother was rushed to when he cut his eye as a toddler.   you'd be very welcome to drop in tomorrow and visit.  we're open every weekend - usually on saturdays, except for the weekend of the last sunday of the month, when we open on the sunday instead.  caroline (meadow orchard project)

I had my tonsils and adenoids removed at the Hornsey cottage hospital back in 1946 ish  was it a red brick building with big trees that's my memory of the exterior ..

Aha - another victim of the tonsils ripper! I was in for mine in 1947-8 ish. Brother had his done at Prince of Wales Tottenham in about 1952 so I guess the cottage was already changing by then? Yes it was a low, red-brick building of about 10910 vintage \I would guess. Quite pretty.

Encore! EcoBuilding Day
11:00 to 17:00, 10 October 2015
Meadow Orchard Project, 151 Park Road, N8 8JD (rear of health centre car park)

Ecobuilding volunteers are needed at the Meadow!

If you can help or you would like to learn some natural building techniques, please join in!

They say no special skills are needed, although woodworking skills would be useful. They will be doing a variety of tasks, including designing and building the steps up to the building, making skirting boards and finishing the cob-bottle wall.

Calthorpe CC was renamed Crouch End Cricket Club, though the mascot and insignia remain.
I'm glad to have known the guys at Highgate who helped bail the club from bankruptcy, when clubs struggled with membership nearly a decade ago.

I hope you can catch a game if the weather is kind, there is a great setting at Shepherds Cott as you may well remember. The bar is still an asset, and they have done a neat little make over for spectators to enjoy a West Indian curry on club days.
