New kids on the block were always challenged with "Spurs or Arsenal?" and "Harringay Racers or Wembley Lions?" and you didn't dare get one wrong. Thanks for all this great history section, Hugh. So many memories!
Not Racers or Greyhounds? (the two Harringay teams)
No, not really. It was all about if you were for Harringay - of any kind - or you were a foreigner.
They're are news to me I only remember the motorcycle speedway Harringay Racers, one name that sticks in my mind is Split Waterman I don't know any others in the team my dad was the secretary of the club in the 1950's - 1960's.
I remember Split Waterman.
I remember the police phone box at Turnpike Lane, and I remember opening the small public use door for a laugh when I was a young lad and to my surprise and shock there was a copper on the phone. He did say anything I quickly shut the door and ran. :) What happened to to the snack bar on Duckets Common on the corner of Willoughby and Turnpike lane, we used to call it the savaloy stall.
