No Christine Yates it was Woodlands that she went to and then onto Hornsey County.  Was Chestnut School the Catholic School run by Nuns?

No Christine, that was St Mary's on St Ann's Road.. The new buildings on Hermitage Road were opened in September 1967.

When I was about twelve we lived at 5a Grand Parade which was five shops along from The Salisbury.  To get some pocket money I had a paper route from Mr. Fone who had a newspaper stand outside the Salisbury.  I also helped him out at the stand.  In 1956 or 1957 Mr. Fone was sick so a man named Tom filled in for him.  Just about every day Tom would send me round to a café where Salisbury Road and St Annes Road meet.  I would get him a jug of tea and a bacon sandwich.  I can recall the smell of that sandwich even now.  Mr Fone died, I think in 1957 and my Mum and I went to his house in Wood Green to see him before he died.  he also had a very small shop across the road in Warham Road which his wife ran.

I think I can remember Mr Fone.  Interesting that you can still smell that bacon sandwich.  They say the sense of smell is the strongest for invoking memories.  I can still smell the distemper that was used to paint walls in those days.  I also used to help a boy deliver newspapers along Grand Parade.  I remember all those stairs.  This would have been in the early 1950s.

Do you know Brian Granville who took over from Mr Fone after he died?  I remember a lady in the newspaper stand who lived in Seymour Road but I cannot remember her name.

I was too young to actually buy newspapers but I remember the boy who delivered them.  I lived at 135 Seymour and my friend lived at 97 Warham.  I'll ask her if she remembers the small shop there.  We all knew each other by sight but I don't remember names.

I think the lady I am thinking of lived at the top of Seymour Road.  My Nan lived at 45 and this lady lived past her.  I believe she had a son who was about my age - so was born about 1949.

I didn't actually take over from Mr. Fone as I was only 12.  No, the man named Tom took it over and then I guess Mrs. Fone ran the business.

Wonderful........... I remember all those shops listed above and the news paper stall is where I first found out that President John Kennedy had been assassinated on my way home from a job I had at Pearks Grocers.   The headlines were written on sheets attached to "A" boards.   I lived in Harringay Road 1949 - 70.

I worked part time in The Salisbury from 1974 to 1977 John King was the licensee and there was just so many characters in The Salisbury so many fond memories. At that time I lived in Legat Court Warwick Gardens
