This is very unfair. I thought I had put all this behind me when I left the Hornsey Journal in 1964! But truth to tell for about 6 months in 1959/60 I broke the law most Friday mornings. Bad enough to drink pints under 16 but, being a tall lad and drinking with the boozerati I was able to buy the occasional round. Courage Directors it was and about 10d a pint! Suffice to say that, until Alex Weir, ex manager Preston, took over the Bird in Hand, Hornsey Park Road, this was our regular Friday haunt. After he arrived we shared ourselves out. Why? He cashed cheques...
Much resemblance to the Salisbury on Green Lanes...........???
Designed by the same firm....
The Bird In Hand was in Park road where "Coffin Alley" is now (next to the path) called that because the flats are all rectangular shapes.
This is quite a recent photo. The sign does not have the two different queens on it.
