Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The pub we know today as The Finsbury, opened in 1871 as The Finsbury Park Hotel,

This photo taken in around 1930 shows a group of people gathered at the entrance, Zooming in, I can see a trumpet or similar instrument and someone who looks like they may be playing something like a clarinet. So I suspect that a band of some sort is what was drawing people in.

You can also see the first of the terrace of houses that stretched north from the pub. The first three houses, 338-340 were used for private dwellings. Numbers 344-354 were owned by Northumberland House Hospital, and probably used as staff accommodation. See the third photo on this page for a view of numbers 344-354. This old postcard taken looking south from further down the hill shows the entrance to the hospital and the end of the terrace of housing.
