A yes, “Tandy” was the UK name for the US company Radio Shack. My dad used to go there periodically, because if you were a signed-up customer, they used to have a free battery allowance. This was just as well, as my dad had about half a dozen of the cheap portable transistor radios (usually bought from a market stall) that used to run on them.
