Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The image came from a journal published in 1902. It is looking north west. A bad image, but an unusual one

You can just catch sight of the building in this photo. This one is a contemporary shot of the opposite corner of Hornsey Park Road.

Below is the corresponding listing form Kellys of the same year.

This is a wonderful image and very relevant to my family history. My 2 x great-grandfather Alexander Buckingham Wurr and his family lived in Hornsey Park Road at this time, just a stone's throw from where this and the other photo linked to were taken, so it's a fascinating snapshot for me of their immediate neighbourhood. This map is from 1894 and you can see buildings near the bottom centre of the image - the turning into Clarendon Road is just out of sight in the photo.

Sadly, Alexander B Wurr was admitted to the asylum around this time and died in Napsbury in 1907 in abject circumstances - reading his patient records was quite distressing. Tellingly, his sad demise was never spoken about in the family and not rediscovered until I found the records.
