I think it was in 1976 that I remember this place was rebranded as BOLTS - a Saturday night GAY venue. I went several times and even saw WHAM there before they made it big time. They were chucking their records into the audience then! Can't do that today ... health and safety issue.
Almost - Bolts was next door in what's now the Gym.
Hugh, thank you very much for that link. It is such a long time ago. it all looked like one venue to me. What wonderful memories I have of that place. So happy to have been part of the gay scene then.
I don't think so. You can see the inside of the Cinema here.
Now that I have got my thinking cap on, I do now remember entering Bolts from the side, where Tesco Express is now, and not from the Coliseum front door.
Wow, those photos are fantastic . And there is a trolley bus in one of the photos too, route 521 which became route 221when the trolley buses were replaced. Used to travel on them .. oh my god I am so OLD.
I also remember as a kid going to the ABC for Saturday morning pictures. Never went to the Curzon, too young, except to have a look at the black and white photos of semi-nude actors/actresses on display outside . I think they stopped displaying them outside by the time "Nympho Stories" came along. I wonder what triggered the gay in me.
Bolts at Lazers wasn't it? I tried going there once but couldn't find it. A huge disco.
Shame you never got there in the end.
what a beautiful building- they should have restored it would have been a great compliment to The Salisbury- look at the monstrosity they put up instead so sad ....
