Hi Meryl - well I am going to guess that one way or another our paths and your cousin may well have crossed. I lived in Frobisher from 46 to 64! And while I cannot recall where Janet Savage lived your idea is entirely possible!
Sat morning pictures — jumped up and down and lost both my front teeth on the back of the seats in front of my row
Eric, that's the most believable story I've read. Hope they were baby teeth.
Richard Woods....the years can be cruel eh ? I too had hair at that age ! I doubt if we met though because you are a 'couple' years older than me but "passed"....who knows. It was a busy neighbourhood.
Eric orros.......I trust you didn't pick those teeth up off the old Colly floor and have them replanted ??
Only just clicked but we never ever called it 'Ducketts Common' in those days. The Ritz was always Turnpike Lane. To us living next to it the common was exactly that and never an area; even the West Green Pleasance (Plasaunce in those days) and the area was always called West Green Road.
By the way Hugh - this might make an interesting sideline sometime - "We know where you mean but what did you call it?"
I took a girlfriend there in the 70s to see The Godfather 1. She fancied James Caan!
Meryl O'Neal, Did you know of a Bobby Savage in connection with 'your' Mrs Savage ??
I remember queueing in the rain, waiting for the commissionaire to appear and let you in. There were signs showing the prices. (1s&6d and 1s&9d) Sometimes, if we couldn't get into the Ritz, we went up to the Regal in Frobisher Road. (A slight cut above the aforementioned Coliseum.)
