Albums: Historical Images of Harringay After 1918 | 3 of 3
How extraordinary! When I was 15 and at a youth club i Harringay I met a girl whom I quite fancied and said I would 'see her home'' like you did in this days. It turned out she lived at, yes, you guessed it - the Elephant and Castle! It cost me many pennies on the utterly real 171 for two outbound and one return! Never did see her again. But her mum continued to appear at that club in the Congregational Church (I think it way) regularly. Never spoke to me though!
Richard Woods: We must’ve had something that attracted them north of the river……
Possibly - in 1946 my parents and me and two brothers migrated from Streatham to Harringay!
I remember going to guides in the Congregational church in the mid 1960s. I lived further up Green Lanes between Park Road and Harringay Gardens.
I remember shopping in the Woolworths near the Salisbury. Does anyone remember Gunners the butchers/ cheese shop ?
