Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Green Lanes, Harringay by Endymion Road, 1988 - vs. a 1947 aerial view

Somehow, I missed posting this image some years back when I posted all the other 1988n Green Lanes bus spotter pics.

It shows on the right the petrol station that stood on or near this spot for a good half-century, until when the Arena/Stadium site was developed (There's even a sign-board for that vanguard of loyalty points, Green Shield Stamps). Beyond is the blue-sided shed of Texas Homecare. Behind Texas was a Magnet brand kitchens store. On the left, at the corner of Endymion Road, is what looks like a tobacconist where there's been a property agent for many a year now.

Behind the petrol station I recall that there was a big old Victorian building which I never had the time nor sufficient curiosity to investigate back then, but which I'm pretty sure was the old Cyprus Laundry building.

The first petrol station (slightly to the north of the later one) and the laundry building can be seen in the 1947 RAF photo, below. The building to the left (north) of the petrol station was the Harringay Market building. Behind that, of course, the Arena building.

You can see from the Google Maps satellite image, below that the western part of the laundry building site is now occupied by a corner of the former Homebase building; the north part by Urban Mews, which seems to use the same entrance road as the laundry, between numbers 25 and 27 Hermitage Road.
