Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Daily Herald, 8th Jan 1920

Argyle Hall was another local community hall that saw a wide range of uses by locals. It was at 105 Seven Sister Road, between the Holloway Road and Finsbury Park Station. It was on the left a few buildings north west of the junction with Hornsey Road.

Interesting that the Argyle Hall was being used to host a meeting with a far-right speaker. George Makgill (thanks Wikipedia) had a murky history of anti-socialism which included a private intelligence unit supported by business.

I think like most halls of its kind, it was used by a whole range of the groups.  What's raised an eyebrow for me is that the advert appeared on the Daily Herald.

I would like to think the Herald would not have denied space for the ad on the grounds of free speech - and getting the opposition there!
