That is a smashing picture. A beautiful locomotive in full steam and tender full of coal. A fabulous  sunny day too. Excellent.

Marvellous - but watching all those people crossing the road... do you know the first ever Pelican crossings were in Green Lanes, Harringay? And when they wanted all those barriers in the 60s there was an outcry!

Thanks for your comments. It was a good sunny day for a pic. The view quickly becomes a slice of history so perhaps another shot from the same place later this year would be good for a comparison. But a different loco! Chris

The pedestrian crossings appeared in 1964 and featured a blue stick man crossing the road. He walked quicker as the time to cross was ending.
As kids we used to press the buttons whether we wanted to cross or not.
