Atlas plastics I believe took over from the pickle factory on corner of Inderwick prior to '94 when I left there. I don't remember the hoarding around Capital/Spurlings for decades either.......
I took my car into Spurlings as it had become, after some minor frontal damage and they fitted a new numberplate. It took me a few weeks to notice, that it now had a different number to the back plate !!
When I took it back to show them, they tried to blame me...!
The breakdown truck for Capital Motors was restored and ran in rallies for a time. Photo on net. Also a video on net of Lynne Frank & Wagstaffs tow-truck on route there.
I also think they had premises in Haringey Park somewhere by the Civil Defence ambulance which was parked there for years alongside the newly built -at that time- library. And the Council Dentist which later became a HIV/aids clinic where Princess Diana famously visited.
Only St Luke's church building remains -now converted to flats- in Mayfield Road, after demolition of Stationers and demolition of -was it a girls school in Weston Park Rd between Mayfield & Denton Roads.
Yes, Hornsey High School was in those buildings in Weston Park until they moved into their new premises in Inderwick Road in about 1970. After the girls school moved out, Stationers' took over the buildings for expansion.
Thanks for these snippets, Alan. According to London phone books, Atlas Plastics Ltd, "Splrs(sic) Housewares, Kitchenwares,", were at 22 Brook Road Wood Green, until the mid-70s.
They then moved to SE10 for a while before moving up to Hornsey by 1980. I don't know if there was another tenant between Britton's leaving and Atlas arriving.
With regards to the demolition of Capital/Spurlings, I have photos of the demolition site, dated on the back as c 12/1994. I have the new girls' school as opening in 1971, having transferred from its old site, below Stationers, between Inderwick and Denton.
