Did you use a super wide angle lens Alistair or did you use a panoramic camera?

Sorry Paul, I missed your comment so just catching up.
The panoramas are constructed from separate images (at least six for these examples) stitched together. The camera is just a standard compact digital and the stitching program is Autostitch (free). If you are interested in what other people have done with autostitch, have a look at this flickr link.

I've added these Grand Parade panoramas to flickr as well. Partly because somebody suggested I should but also to take advantage of the 'notes' feature of flickr to link to more detailed images/information (such as MrsEds's excellent detail of many of the buildings - well worth investigating if you haven't seen them).
