Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Looking North East. The late Victorian terrace in the foreground is still standing. The earlier Victorian villas beyond were demolished to make way for Turnpike Lane Tube, The taller buildings in the background, on the left are still standing, opposite Turnpike Lane on Westbury Avenue.

This is the same comment as on the other Green Lanes photo.
"The electric traction poles along the centre of Green Lanes date from the introduction of Electric Trams in 1904/05. They were replaced within five years by the usual style poles on both sides of the road, due to the rising number of road traffic accidents, that even at that early stage, were beginning to occur."
Imagine trying to drive any sort of vehicle along a road without street lighting and having cast iron obstacles in the middle of the road..!!

Though the Victorian terrace is still around, the leftmost house has gone (bomb damage?). Shame about the loss of ivy, trees and hedges.

I think it is more likely that the 'lost house' disappeared during the building of the Underground Station.
Thanks for the comparison photo which clearly shows how the lack of 'town planning' and regulations on 'modernistaion' has ruined a once smart terrace and turned it into an eyesore.
