Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Taken in the late 1970s. The original organ remained intact, if a little unloved, behind the panelling on the right of the picture. See companion photo for an image of the organ.

I can imagine. It seems to have been long unloved.

During the 50's we would visit the flea pit every Saturday morning. Meryl

Oh, so it was called the flea-pit then. I've not used that term before because I wasn't sure if was just our 'family' name for it. My mum always used to call it the that.
The 'box-office' winners always used to pass the 'flea-pit' by. My brother used to spend hours here, watching second rate cowboy films during the school hols..

Yes, the Coli was known as The Fleapit even in the 40s. Perhaps it was a term of endearment then? I remember going every week to see the original Superman serial. Now was that Johnny Weismuller? My all time favourite, though, was Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd)!

Not exactly unloved; more accepted for what it was! Cheap and some great old films I recall in the 50s.

A much loved institution of my childhood.  Terrific Saturday mornings/afternoons entertainment with an A film, B film, serial in between and not forgetting the wonderful Pathe Newsreels with the crowing cockerel. All for a tanner I believe, if Mum could afford it, otherwise try and bunk in through the side door.  And the 'glamorous' ice cream usherettes. Great cowboy and comedy films, all heroes.  The continuous screenings meant you could sit through from one show to another without charge.  Ahh, the dear old Collie/Colly or Fleapit.  Long before the days of pop corn and coke by the BUCKET LOAD.  May be gone but never forgotten.
