Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Grounds of Harringay House from Finsbury Park c 1880. The house can just about be made out on the hill in the centre of the photo.

If you'd like to learn more about the history of Harringay , see my article on Wikipedia providing an overview of the History of Harringay. The series box at the top of that page will take you to more detailed articles I've sketched out on periods in Harringay's history.

There is a really clear, blown up version of this photograph included in the outdoor exhibition in Finsbury Park. Hard as I've tried, I can't figure out where in the park this particular vista is situated.

Yes, apologies for the low res version. I have a full size high res version. But, my deal with Bruce Castle when I started publishing their photos was that I'd watermark them with Bruce Castle and only publish them low res. Same applied with the Hackney Archives photos of Manor House. Otherwise, I always choose to publish hi res versions and watermark them with HoL to make it more difficult for them to be taken and resold on ebay et al.

As to the location, I've always thought it was somwhere near the spot marked on the 1893 OS map, below.

Yes, looking at the path layout it seems about right!
