That's how I remember the walk down to Harringay from Manor House. The lamp standards are of the 'Met. Boro of Stoke Newington' trolleybus replacement type (1960/61) and were used from Endymion Road to Newington Green, Blackstock Road to Amhurst Park.

Would it also be OK to mention that Peter Benyon a good friend of mine was mudered here in a homophobic attack, just about where the lady is walking, on July 23 1977 aged 32.

Of course.

Stephen, I'm sorry to hear about your friend Peter. Would hope that wouldn't happen nowadays, but sadly it does. At least you still found strength to stay here or come back

The road to the right, Woodberry Grove, is where I lived - 1942 'till 1958 then we moved to Highbury Quadrant.

In the 40's and 50's Friday, Saturday, greyhound race nights or when anything was on at the arena there always would be a jellied eel stall on the forecourt of the pub - lit by very bright acetylene lamps.

On Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtimes there was live music in the pub. I can remember the typical old pub singer's voice!
