I talked about these two photos with Alistair. Where have all the hedges gone? What a shame that so many Ladder front gardens are paved over and bare, these days. Bring back the greenery! (And the wildlife would appreciate it too)
In case you're wondering, no, I don't have a hedge but have planted up lots of lavender, herbs and there is some kind of bush just about holding its own.

It's so gratifying to see that these old houses (1898) having survived two world wars are now 'reborn' and looking so bright and cheerful. Thanks for this photo Alistair! I am in the old one. There's a girl in white standing up on the right table, next to her a boy and then a little head. That's me aged 5.
I quite agree about the lack of greenery. The wildlife would appreciate it, but on the other hand, with lots of bushes etc. your little doggie friends might have somewhere else to dump their doodoos. Not in my frontyard?
Does anyone know what happened to The Oakwood Laundry which was in Green Lanes opposite to Beresford?

We had two workshops that were actually in the garden of the house next to the alley in Beresford Road .The entrance to our workshops were in the actual alley that runs between Beresford and Effingham .You can still see the concrete foundations that the workshops used to stand on .Apart from the workshops being pulled down sometime after 1975 nothing seems to have been done with the garden .There were two males including myself and six females who worked there from approx 1960-75 producing quite a significant amount of handbags .
