I used to go these Saturday evening meetings from about 1963/64 onwards until about 1968/69. My favourite car was No.375 driven by George Ansell No. 375. I've still got some old programmes tucked away somewhere.

I had an almost stock car experience down at Sainsburys yesterday. Took half an hour to get out of the place and with all the jostling that went on it was almost an return to stock car days. :)

I used to go to these as a child, my dad used to race there on occasion... I recall they called it banger racing. the last race of the night was called the demolition derby (basically a huge smash up) and the last car running won.

They also filmed a key scene in 'The Long Good Friday' starring Bob Hoskins, and featuring a young Pierce Brosnan playing the part of the driver. Classic scene... Bob Hoskins face in the mirror 'knowing he was done for'.

@Steve Hatch

Have you noticed the 'stock car theme tune' by Joe Loss on the bottom left HOL Front Page? Play that tune and Harringay in the 1960s comes rolling back...

Thanks for that Stephen, I do remember that tune, it has also brought back a memory of burning rubber and smoke... amazing!!! Does anybody know when they stopped racing there? I must have been about 5 y/o 1972/73
