RT Bus on 29 Route - 6 Aug 2015

Tube strike day and nice to see this old RT on Green Lanes back in service on the 29 route.

The RTs were based on the AEC Regent Mk.III but LT also ordered a smaller number (compared to many hundreds of RTs) of RTLs which were based on the Leyland Titan PD2. During the end of the production run, the legal maximum width of a bus was increased from 7' 6" to 8', so the last batch of RTLs were constructed to the new width, hence RTW! There are only 2 or 3 preserved RTWs as far as I know.

If you like preserved 'London' buses, the bus services to & from the Epping Ongar Railway are always operated by a variety of former red and green London buses and the odd Green Line coach.

Comment by Jeremyb on August 7, 2015 at 9:01: I aslo spotted a green RT and a Routemaster- RML 902, one of the prototype longer- length batch from 1961-on the 29 yesterday. Pamish, most of them belong to London Bus Co or Ensignbus, and are available for hire for weddings, trips, etc...

Comment by Glenn Wallis on August 8, 2015 at 8:20: I wasn't being critical, just informative. The easiest way to spot an RTW is they have a much narrower cream/grey (depending or period portrayed) between decks band than the RTs/RTLs.

These preserved vehicles look set to become a regular sight on the 29 and other trunk routes as I can seen the dispute on LU continuing through to Autumn.
