George Ansell was still around when I used to go, just before it closed down - late 1970s maybe?

I was obsessed with Stock Cars as a kid; the driver of the car showing its underparts was Willie Wanklyn from Stevenage; I could reel off all the names and numbers - perhaps I should have put more efforts into my times tables….

Jock Lloyd “World Champion” of North London with the gold topped Jag

Comment by Peter John Morris on Sunday

I saw Tom ‘Jock’ Lloyd (131) win that at West Ham in 1961 - it was a bit of a fluke as he was only a ‘yellow top’ at the time, but that was the unpredictable fun of stock cars in those days. The local Harringay hero was Alan England number 24.
