What does platform ticket mean ? "Not valid on trains." Was it a tax on trainspotters?
I suppose it could be said that they were a form of tax on trainspotters, but I think platform tickets were meant mainly for people seeing someone off on a train. They were usually valid for 1 hour only. The modern day train operating companies don't issue them any more, access to platforms being at the discretion of station staff.
Thanks. Interesting to see them.
