From Haringey Council Website:

I was elected as a councillor for Seven Sisters ward in May 2006. My job is to work with local residents and to represent their interests within Haringey Council.

I am committed to working with my fellow councillors to improve the Council and ensure that we continue to meet the needs of the diverse communities that live and work in the borough.

Haringey has its challenges – in particular the high levels of poverty that exist. It is the fifth most deprived borough in London and the thirteenth most deprived in England. Too many residents live in over-crowded accommodation and homelessness is the second highest across all London boroughs. These are big challenges that I know the Labour Council is committed to tackling.

I first got involved in politics as a student because I believed it was the means to achieve change to create a better, fairer and more just society. After completing a degree in modern history at the University of East Anglia, I was elected as a sabbatical officer of the students’ union before moving on to serve as the National Vice President of the National Union of Students. I was part of the NUS Labour Group and a member of the National Organisation of Labour Students.

I have been involved in the local community since moving to Haringey. I believe firmly in the principle of local people being involved in the decisions that affect their lives. I am chair of the governing body of Earlham Primary School. My career is rooted in the voluntary sector and I have worked in policy roles for a number of national charities.
