Stanley Road late 1960s

"Family history, so many memories triggered by a simple photograph. We have to thank the photographer (perhaps the proud owner of 3615 MF) for taking it and the miracle that it has survived. Thank you, Hugh."

Western Spectacle 1952

"I was there. My dad was a fan of western films and fiction. So he always took me to the shows at the arena. Bought for me by dad, I proudly wore a sheriffs star with a picture of a youthful Tex Ritter in the centre."

Some wonderful photos there with some provoking memories of childhood.  My Mum also worked at Maynards in the late 50s/60s and I remember her coming home with stuff like "Jamboree Bags", Liquerice novelties, etc, etc.   Equivalent of winning the lottery now I spose !         Thanks for sharing them.

Hi Roy,

Thanks for your comments about the New River. They're absolutely fascinating. I wonder whether you'd be able to meet up for a cup of tea in a local cafe and do a short audio interview for our river project. I do hope that might work for you. My e-mail address is sarah@sarahpeters.net

With grateful thanks and best wishes,

Sarah

Hi Roy,

Thank you so much for your swift reply - what lovely, evocative stories of your childhood. I'd love to hear more about them. I should explain more about the project  I'm doing with a local artist: next year is the New River's 400th anniversary and to mark this, we're planning an audio-visual hommage to the river in the form of an audio documentary and slideshow. We are keen to capture the amazing stories and images of the river as it bends and curves through London. I wonder - do you have any photos of yourself near the New River when you were young? And is there a way my colleague and I get in touch?

Huge thanks

Sarah
