I've been using this excellent opticians for 18 years, and was alarmed to see, a few weeks ago, that it's had to close down until further notice, owing to a "building emergency." The shop floor was completely cleared out last time I looked, and I'd guess there was a serious flood. Does anyone have any info on what happened, and if they are indeed going to reopen at some point?See More

Buildings Insurance for converted house

We live in a ground floor flat on Pemberton Road. In a quirk that we inherited from the previous owner, we are also the freeholders for the house, which has two flats. We've never had a problem getting insurance before, but this year all sorts of obstacles are being put in our way. The online forms don't allow for this situation, and even when we speak to a human being, they can't seem to help. Even the company we used last year is saying they can't give us what we want.Is anyone else in this…See More

Question about roofs

One of you knowledgeable people might be able to help answer a question for us. We have to renew our building insurance, and one of the questions (which we haven't been asked before) is about what the flat part of the roof is constructed of. There are loads of options, the most likely being "asphalt" or "felt on timber". We're on Pemberton Road. Anyone know what it's most likely to be, or how we can find out?See More
