Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Heritage isn't just bricks and mortar, objects in museums, it's also memories, photos and their stories, the names of things that are gone but remembered.

At times, the very name of Harringay seems under threat from the bureaucrats who want to contract it to an electoral boundary or obliterate it altogether by renaming it Green Lanes, the Ladder and Gardens and other such 'conveniences' that let them out of acknowledging the past and future of Harringay.

This site is committed to preserving the heritage that belongs to the local residents, that comes from local residents and which they will pass on to future generations of Harringay residents, we have much to remember and be proud of.

Start by reading the blog posts from site members about their memories of Harringay here

And you? Have you got any memories of growing up/living in Harringay?
Why not write a blog post and tag it "Harringay memories" (you'll then feature on the page above).
It doesn't have to be that far back, what was Harringay like in the 80s and early 90s for example. How was it in the 70s? Please share what you remember or talk to friends and relatives.
Did you move here from another country? What was that like? Has the heritage of where you were born come to be reflected around you?

After all it would be a crying shame it would be to lose the opportunity to connect with first hand witnesses to half of Harringay's local history.

The penpushers want to whitewash over Harringay's heritage, let's make sure they don't succeed.
