Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As I walk home up Hewitt Road, I always wondered why the Council only paved up to just before the passage. Then, recently, having been doing som ework on the area's history, I just realised why. You can see it in Seymour. Where the paving ends, set into the wall on both sides are the old boundary markers between Hornsey and Tottenham. Tottenham put paving down; Hornsey didn't. It's remarkable, the paving line is at an angle precisely in line with the old boundary. Well I never!

I think that was because the Tottenham Corporation was more affluent than Hornsey. Tottenham had much more industry than Hornsey and therefore had much more rateable income than Hornsey ever did.
