Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Small tree with red berries
This small tree spotted in a local front garden has been puzzling me. I have heard some ideas, but not sure yet. Largish pinnate leaves, red berries held upright. Any ideas, please?

Thanks a lot, Anne. This has been suggested to me, but do they ever have berries held up like this? Also the leavelets are much bigger than normal rowan, but I suppose that could be a cultivar.

Anne, after further research, I think that it is in the Sorbus genus, but perhaps Sorbus commixta.
I have even found a picture with the fruits been held erect:http://www.emotivelandscapes.co.uk/2010/12/some-plants-from-the-aut... Also Wikipedia helps quoting "Collins" (can't find my copy) "Plants from Hokkaidō, the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin are sometimes distinguished as Sorbus commixta var. sachalinensis, with larger leaflets up to 9 cm long."
This fits perfectly with the large leaflets I observed on the tree.
