Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Seed swap results

At the last seed swap I took away several things that I have never grown before: bella di notte, red orache and sunflowers. The first two I had never heard of. I planted all of them indoors initially. Here are the results:

The bella di notte seeds looked like little black hand grenades and three of them came up as seedlings. I put this one in a flower bed surrounded by snap dragons. Its flowers are dark pink.

Four red orache seedlings came up and, as I had found out that they grow tall, I put them next to the broad beans. Here they are crammed between the beans and some mizuna. When cooked, the leaves taste just like spinach.

As for sunflowers, I had never grown them before. Here are four pictures starting from early May at monthly intervals. The tallest is now over 9 feet and still growing. I think there are at least three different varieties. I planted ten altogether (two are out of frame). Two got damaged and were replaced by seedlings from a friend.

Well I have one of your baby lavenders from the last swap and its the only Lavender I've ever managed to get through a winter.

Pumpkin seeds are doing very well to and assorted beans, cant remember who I got those off of.

Aww so glad the Bella de Notte came up. I brought the seeds back from Italy and didn't keep any for myself, so glad that there is a little bit of my home town growing in Harringay. Colour is good as well, as they never come up the same as the parent plant and are often mottled.
