Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I received the following on an email circular from Gemma Harris:

To those who may be interested in seed / plant swapping in Haringey. The Sustainable Haringey seed swap in Bruce castle in February was very popular, (see here for details,) but it's only once a year. Meanwhile there are loads of surplus seeds and plants that need re-homing all year round To facilitate this we want to create a 'horticultural zone' at the 'give and take' events taking place around the borough. All you have to do is:

  • turn up with spare seeds, plants, gardening magazines, books, tools, advice etc, give them away
  • see if there's something you fancy picking up
  • meet fellow gardeners, chat, and enjoy yourselves.

The first would be at the Green Fair on 13 June on Duckett's Common.

As the idea develops we'll put information on the 'Growing in Haringey' website . There's a discussion page behind where people can add comments.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of local plant sales and shows at this time of year. See Muswell Hill Gardeners.

Here's some information from Adam at Haringey Council about 'give and take' days:

This is a simple way for people to give away unwanted reusable items and for others to come along and take them. All for free! Our last one was in October at Chestnut's Community Centre and proved very popular. Almost all items will be accepted as long as they are in good working order and will be of use to someone else. There will be an electrician present on the day to test small electronic items that may be donated to ensure they are in good working order and safe to use.
