Human pee makes for really good compost too. Best to get the man of the house do it as its a bit tricky for us ladies if you happen to own one of the high top plastic composters.
For the first time this year all our tomatoes we're grown from our own compost and we are now enjoying a bumper crop that is still producing fruit. In fact all our home grown herbs and veg this summer has been excellent and abundant.
We even added wooden kitty litter to our compost all winter, as the wood pellets break down and make a really good airing layer that gradually gets mixed in to the rest of the compostable matter.
Tea bags [broken open] coffee grinds and crushed egg shells are also another great way to add nutrients to the compost. I sometimes put these straight onto our raised vegetable beds.
