Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The council owned Wolves Lane Horticultural Centre up at Wood Green has been providing plants to our local parks as well as selling reasonably priced plants for decades.

It has recently become another victim of local belt tightening and its future is in doubt. For years now it has been struggling recently.

A friends group has now been formed to bring the centre back up to scratch before a relaunch.

There are a couple of ways you can help.

First if you've never visited before, or haven't done so for a while, please pop up and buy a few plants to help them get back on their feet.

Secondly there's an opportunity this week to get your hands dirty and help get the centre ready for an open day on 9th May.

The garden maintenance will be taking place this Thursday and Friday from 1pm to 4pm. I'm told that everyone is welcome and tools and gloves will be provided. All levels of gardening ability welcome.

I don't any contact info at the moment. So if you want to help this week, it's probably best just to pitch up and ask for Mandy.

Wolves Lane is a fabulous community resource - all three of my children have had their birthday parties there.  As well as a desert house, a rainforest cave and a palm house trail with coy carp and terrapins, they have a collection of mini beasts, a tarantula, a tree frog, a gecko and a couple of corn snakes.  Lots of local schools go to visit and are treated to a guided tour by the wonderful education officer, Angela.  C'mon everybody, let's not lose this fantastic oasis in the city!  Post code is N22 5JD and the W4 stops outside on request.

I absolutely agree - this place is amazing and it will be such a loss if it is closed down. I recently purchased 5 bags of various plants and seeds for under 30 quid! They even sell freshly laid eggs. To add to the long list of reasons to visit they also have chickens, ducks, guinea pigs and rabbits which the very friendly volunteers are willing to take out of their cages so the kids can hold them! It is an invaluable resource for local schools and if you're thinking of having a kids birthday party this is a brilliant option - what child doesn't want to meet a hissing cockroach or get tickled by a stick insect!?

Yes,  Wolves Lane is indeed fabulous and amazing! I will add that it is a magical oasis of peace and tranquillity.

My son is a volunteer there and his work gives him a real sense of worth. He is valued at Wolves Lane not just for what he does, but for who he is.

The loss of Wolves Lane would be the loss of one of Haringey's jewels. Please support it.

They have already closed down the cafe. We live up the road from the centre, and because we do not have a garden, it has become our adopted garden. I can't count the number of weekends we have spent there with our son, who never tires of the coy carps and rabbits.

Staff are friendly and it's the perfect place to visit if it rains! Please support the centre as it's a great community space.
A new cafe has now opened offering fresh sandwiches and cake.
Oh wow...interesting to know. Thanks for that.

Here is more detail about our open day at Wolves Lane this Saturday the 9th May. It is open to the public from 9am to 5pm so pop along any time with friends and family. The following attractions are happening there:

Reasonably priced seasonal plants for sale.

A chance to observe and handle some of the animals that live at the centre.

A bouncy castle.

Face painting.

A cafe with a variety of delicious cold snacks and hot and cold drinks

AS SADDI  STATED ABOVE PLEASE SUPPORT THIS PRECIOUS JEWEL IN OUR COMMUNITY.

Mandy
