Getting ready for planting
The few days of good weather in late February were just what was needed to get all the heavy pruning done and to dispose of the clippings. We also made a start on digging over the vegetable beds in advance of picking up some compost from the big giveaway at Ally Pally on Sunday.
My seed potatoes arrived yesterday and these will now be left to chit before they can be planted. There's a few more than I shall need so I could be persuaded to part with some. Any takers?
The fox population seems fairly active this year and they dragged part of a dead swan into the garden earlier, see photo below.
In the other photo, the effect of today's sunshine on the crocuses dispels all such gruesome images.

Very balanced images thank god. I wouldn't mind a couple of potatoes to grow in bags. Do you know if all potato varieties grow ok in bags?

Hiya Sam, mostly, I plant them in beds although I did put a few first and second earlies in bags last year. Main crop varieties might have done better but I didn't want the space around the bags to be cluttered up for the extra months. This year the varieties I have are Swift (1st early), Picasso (main crop), Isle of Jura (main crop), Osprey (2nd early) and Apache (2nd early). The British Potato Variety Database doesn't seem to have information about growing in bags.
