This year my crop of Bramleys has started to ripen earlier than usual and on 7th August I pressed the first batch of windfalls. 28 kg of apples yielded 18 litres of rather tart apple juice - which was all drunk fresh.
Since then more than enough for another batch have fallen and I shall have to press these over the coming weekend. I expect to get started around 3pm on Saturday 23rd. If anyone wants to help or just bring kids to watch, let me know. I intend to pasteurise some of this batch - even though we still have a few dozen bottles remaining from last year.

It is kind of you to offer but, I am sorry to say, pear juice has not proved so popular and, because of this, I process most of my cooking pears to extract the molasses. That's a different process and doesn't normally happen before the end of October.
The short answer is:
If they are dessert pears, I don't need them.
If they are cookers, I could use no more than five kilos to make a batch of chutney.
Hi Dick,
We would love to come and help on Saturday. See you there.
