I use marseille soap and it helps to protect my roses against powdery mildew, black spots and aphids.

So far so good, but I've been told that it cannot solve worst cases.

We planted lavender in between our roses and have not had a problem since.

The American ladybirds have been around all winter. Another invasion from over the pond.

Yes I've noticed lots of weird ladybirds, didn't know they were US though. Do they still eat aphids or have they developed more sophisticated tastes?

I thought they were Asian? 7 spots is European, 2 is rare and not sure where they're from, more than 7 is from Asia (or so I was led to believe). You can see loads of them if you walk around the east side of the front of Ally Pally in summer.

On my Pittosporum this morning, lots of blimmin aphids...

... but also lots of hungry (foreign-looking) ladybirds. Let (organic) battle commence!

The friendly ladybirds did they lovely job in my garden during the past month and no aphids anymore ;-)
